Honestly inspiring...

Local Brisbane woman, Bev Ryan, creates 'Honestly Woman' magazine every 3 months which I was fortunate enough to discover recently. Bev describes it as a magazine about quietly inspiring women with no air-brushing or toxic niceness - that was enough to entice me to venture further. I was not disappointed, as I clicked around the website, and read about amazing people doing some amazing things...
A recent article on Girls on top: Women with altitude piqued my interest immediately... each year a group of selected women trek some of the world's most challenging mountain ranges, raising money for local causes. The account of the Kilamanjaro expedition that raised funds for a Zimbabwean orphanage gave me goose bumps. The photography from all the trips on the site is absolutely incredible.

Kilamanjaro... another one for the 'to do' list!

Cook Rock!

Went to the launch of the Rock n Roll Cooking Show last night.

Imagine being invited to the house of your favourite local band for a bit of a cook up and jam session. Well that is essentially what this show provides. Last night we ("we" being the audience of the show, unfortunately I wasn't personally invited over for dinner) were treated to a cooking lesson from "The Gin Club" and witnessed the creation of a mega-meat-lovers Veal Parmajana which included no less than 4 kinds of meat!

Each episode is totally in the control of the musicians, with no host or external mediation, so you really feel like you get to know the band members. And if the warning of possible course language, nudity, drug reference and adult behaviour at the start of the show is any indication of things to come, then I'm certainly going to keep watching!

Screened on Briz31, 8.30pm Thursdays.
It's only a matter of time before it moves to bigger and better.

Pop Art for 21st Gifts

Meet my beautiful sister Jess!
(on left)

Jess is in the year of the 21st's, meaning she and all her friends turn 21 this year, meaning she has a party to go to every second weekend, meaning she has to think up an exciting and original present about every 14 days!

Jess got this pop art portrait done for her mate Suze's 21st. If Suze is half as wrapped as Jess was with it, then she's going to be one happy girl!

Note to friends of Jess: I hope you like Pop Art... you could well be next!

Where in the world wide web is...?

Here's my problem... I want to stay abreast of current events and issues, I want to read about the latest technological advances, and I'd love to know what other people are saying about it all too. But quite honestly, my web search skills are lacking to say the least, and by the time I find something really of interest to me, an hour or two has lapsed and if I don't actually start doing some work soon... well my 'boss' won't be too impressed!

Fortunately I have myself a 'Matt Pascoe', who somehow gets his little laptop to tell him amazing facts and stories on a daily basis and then shares them with me in a summarised version.

But I am trying to do my own bit as well, and this morning I found a local Brisbane site that is helping me on my way to engaging in intelligent and witty conversations at parties (!) ... it's a blog that has been developed by street mag, Map, and I really enjoyed flicking through it. It's especially applicable to Brisbane dwellers with news of what's going on, and it also has a lot of articles on social awareness and 'business with a conscience'. Anyway, I recommend a click-through if you've got a spare minute or two.
