Pop My Art Competition - April entries open

We are now accepting entries for the latest Pop My Art competition.

Simply send us your snaps that you think will look good in Pop Art and tell us in a few words why your photo should be "popped". At the end of April, we'll publish the finalists' photos on the Pascoe Pop Art website. Our customers and visitors will vote on the winner.

They don't have to be high resolution professional shots. Some of our favourite artworks have actually been based on low-resolution, low-light shots taken with camera phones - check out the Pascoe Pop Art online gallery for examples of before and after shots. Try looking for creative angles, animated or thoughtful expressions and interesting poses instead.

Check out the finalists of our last Pop Art competition here or go to PascoePopArt.com to see loads more examples of Pop Art portraits from photos.

Here's exactly what to do:

  1. Email me (rachel@pascoepopart.com) with "Pop My Art Please" in the subject line and attach some of your favourite digital pics that you think would look good in Pop Art.
  2. Tell me in a few words why you would like to turn these photos into Pop Art.
  3. Check back to the site regularly for updates. The top entries will be published on the website at the end of April for our customers and visitors to vote on. The winner will be notified by email, and will receive their Free Pop Art canvas 5-10 working days later.

Good Luck!

Australia's "Fair Go"... apparently not for all.

My little god-daughter turned 2 today. We had a lovely little birthday party.

But the signs of tiredness are really beginning to show on Nehema's 20-year-old mother, Jane.

Arriving pregnant to Australia as a refugee from Sudan just over 2 years ago, Jane has made a wonderful home for herself and her daughter here in Brisbane. She has faced all the challenges of single-motherhood with such strength and positivity that never ceases to amaze me. The only thing is Jane is not single. Her partner Michael, Nehema's father, is still living in the refugee camp in Kenya. Since Nehema's birth, my family have been trying to sponsor Michael to come to Australia. This involves a decent chunk of money and a seemingly never-ending pile of paperwork which should have resulted in Michael being able to live and work here but receive no benefits from the government. We thought the process was finally coming to an end.

Two weeks ago, the Australian embassy wrote to Michael to tell him his application was canceled and not to contact the office again. No explanation. No person to talk to. Just a letter that has dramatically changed the course of 3 people's lives.

Even if there is a legitimate reason to reject Michael's application (which we don't know because they have not been kind enough to tell us), that is NOT the way to treat any human being.

And our government wants to test new citizens for Australian "Fair Go" values... !

Manage your Share House

Look familiar?

Matt's been busy. In addition to popping all our customers artworks, he's just launched a new website called www.sharehousemanager.com.

If you live in a shared house or flat, this website can help you keep track of all your bills, important dates and even shared chores.

The website automatically contacts all members of the household and reminds them when bills are due, along with who owes how much to whom. The site takes over the job of chasing up each householder whenever money is owed and generally removes the hassle from share house living.

Manage your share house bills with share house manager.
